Hope -The Invitation to Believe Again

Why Hope Feels Lost

Hope isn’t something we always notice—until it’s gone. It disappears under the weight of sorrow, regret, and pain. It gets buried by endless news cycles filled with violence, division, and uncertainty. It shrinks when the world feels overwhelming, when our problems seem too big, and when we start to believe that nothing will change.

But here’s the truth: Hope doesn’t leave us—we leave it.

In moments of despair, we tell ourselves that hope is naive, unrealistic, or weak. We convince ourselves that being cynical is safer, that expecting the worst will protect us from disappointment. But in doing so, we shut the door on the very thing that gives us the power to move forward, to try again, to believe in something more.

I wrote this poem as an invitation—an invitation to let hope back in.

Hope (A Poem by Latisha)

Hope is lost.

It got caught up and tied down by sorrow, regret, and pain.

The new rules of the future make hope not want to appear again.

Where the news, violence, senseless acts, and hate bombards us every day,

It's hard to find hope wanting to mix in with the fray.

It could appear if we let it, but that would mean that we would have to let it in.

It would have to reside in us, for hope to truly begin.

To be birthed into our nations, our society, and in our homes,

Hope doesn't want to live in a residence where it's all alone.

So build it and plant it and allow it to grow.

Give it rich soil and fertilizer just to let it know

That you're here with hope for the long haul,

That you will resist the temptation of defeat when it calls.

Hope lets you see a better tomorrow,

Even though the vision could be murky and gray.

It's still a direction to take,

To start to leave your current circumstances in your wake.

If it's not hope for you, I could use some more you see.

We all could use more hope in our society.

The benefits of hope outweigh its harm.

If you have no hope, you can't believe in anyone.

If there is hope, the world has more potential—more possibilities, outcomes, and solutions to tap into.

It gives you a river to pull from, a place to rest, and part of the spiritual nourishment that you need.

Hope is a powerful core rock indeed.

Don't take me at my word; try it on so that you can see.

Hope is powerful and gives you a reason to believe.

I hope you heard me and will answer my call,

To allow hope back in, which will benefit us all.

Reclaiming Hope: A Call to Action

Hope is not just a passive wish—it’s a choice. It’s something we must nurture, cultivate, and fight for.

🌱 Hope is built. Like a seed in the soil, it needs time, care, and patience. Even in dark times, we can water it by focusing on small actions, moments of gratitude, and reminders that progress is possible.

🌱 Hope is planted in communities. It’s not something we hold onto alone. It grows in conversations, shared struggles, and collective efforts. Hope thrives when we remind each other that change is possible.

🌱 Hope requires resistance. It’s easy to give in to despair, but hope asks us to resist that urge. It asks us to keep believing, even when the path is uncertain.

The world doesn’t need more people who have given up. It needs people who are willing to believe again, to hope again, and to act in ways that make things better.

Will you answer the call?
